HIV and AIDS Training Courses for Health Professionals

We offer HIV, sexually transmitted infection (STI) and viral hepatitis trainings across New York State.

The trainings on this site are intended for non-physician health and human services providers who offer HIV, STI and viral hepatitis prevention, testing, care, and support services. All trainings are free of charge and funded by the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute.

Bloodborne Pathogens: HBV, HCV, and HIV

Review of precautions that address the transmission of pathogens in healthcare settings. Includes safe handling of sharps, use of PPE, and decontamination of work areas, plus importance of hepatitis B vaccination for workers. This course meets the educational requirements for federal OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard training.

  3. Engineering controls and the safe handling of sharps
  4. Universal and Standard Precautions and other work practice controls
  5. Personal protective equipment (PPE)
  6. Hazardous signs and labels
  7. OSHA requirements for housekeeping, regulated waste, soiled laundry, and vaccination against hepatitis B
  8. Reporting an exposure incident

Florida: HIV, 1 unit

Brief overview of HIV infection, its cause and mechanism, plus modes of transmission and infection control procedures. Presents the basic components of HIV antibody testing and confirmation and includes clinical management of HIV patients. Summarizes the main components of the Florida Omnibus AIDS Act. Approved by the Florida Board of Nursing for healthcare professionals in Florida
